Retipenna maculosa Yang & Wang, 1994: 67 View in CoL . Type locality: China (Yunnan, Tengchong ). Holotype in CAU.
Diagnosis. This species is characterized by the presence of the head without spots, the meso- and metascutum with black spots on the anterolateral angle, the forewings with brown shadings on the 2nd to 4th inner gradate series and between CuP, the median arch of male gonarcus with small V-shaped invagination, and the arcessus rounded at base but pointed at tip.
Description. Male. Body length 12.0– 12.8 mm, forewing length 16.2–18.6 mm, hindwing length 14.6–16.0 mm.
Head without spots, vertex raised. Compound eyes prominent and black. Antennae yellow, scape and pedicel wider than flagellum. Frons, clypeus and gena not marked. Maxillary and labial palpi brownish yellow.
Pronotum anterior margin shorter than posterior margin, with small brown markings on lateral side, meso- and metascutum with black spots on anterolateral angle.
Legs with dense setae, without spots. Pretarsal claws brown, with basal dilation.
Forewing with brown shadings on 2nd to 4th inner gradate series and between CuP. Pterostigma indistinct. Costal area with 23–27 crossveins; 13–15 radial crossveins present. m1 smaller than m2; im ovoid; 9–10 psm-psc crossveins present. c1 smaller than c2, dcc opened. A1 forked, A2 and A3 simple. Inner gradate series with 7–8 brown crossveins, outer gradate series with 8–9 crossveins.
Hindwing without shadings. Costal area with 18–22 crossveins; 12–14 radial crossveins and 8–9 psm-psc crossveins present. Inner gradate series with 6–7 brown crossveins, outer gradate series with 7–9 crossveins.
Abdomen with dense setae. Tergum VII and sternum VII subquadrate in lateral view; tergum VIII slightly shorter than tergum VII; sternum VIII fused with sternum IX and with small tubercle near tip; tergum IX fused with ectoproct. Callus cerci ovoid. Gonarcus arcuate, median arch with small V-shaped invagination, lateral arms narrow at base and wide at tip; entoprocessus widest at tip; arcessus rounded at base but pointed at tip.
Female. Body length 11.5–12.6 mm, forewing length 17.6–18.6 mm, hindwing length 15.5–16.7 mm.
Sternum VII slightly longer than tergum VII; tergum VII subquadrate in lateral view; tergum VIII shorter than tergum VII; tergum IX fused with ectoproct. Callus cerci ovoid. Subgenitale bilobed apically; spermatheca thick, vela short, ventral impression deep, duct long and coiled.
Material. Holotype ♂, China, Yunnan, Tengchong, 1650 m, 1981.IV.27, Chikun Yang ( CAU); paratype: 1♂, China, Yunnan, Longchuan, 1430 m, 1981.IV.28, Chikun Yang ( CAU). 1♂, China, Yunnan, Gongshan, Dulong, light, 1511 m, 2015.V.06, Yunlong Ma ( CAU); 1♂ 3♀, China, Yunnan, Gongshan, Dulong, Qinlandang, light, 1230–1320 m, 2015.V.08, Yunlong Ma ( CAU); 1♂, China, Yunnan, Lushui, Pianma, 2023.V.22 ( CAU); 1♀, China, Xizang, Zayü, 1500 m, 2020.VIII.09, Yuchen Zheng ( CAU); 1♀, China, Xizang, Zayü, 2019.VI.15, Rongrong Shen & Yingnan He ( CAU).
Distribution. China (Xizang, Yunnan).
Remarks. This species is similar to R. notata , especially the brown shadings on inner gradate series of forewings and the small but broad V-shaped invagination on median arch of male gonarcus. However, this species has black spots on the anterolateral angle of the meso- and metascutum and the arcessus not inverted. In contrast, R. notata has no markings on the meso- or metascutum and has inverted arcessus.
