Forewings near hindmargin with four pairs of black marks; most marks rounded but three marks elongated; the marks are separated by a broad red band; additional red stripes around last subcostal sector and at middle of Ms2; an area in front of black marks covered with white powder. Hindwings colourless. Etymology. The species name is a Latin adjective (rubifasciatus, -a, -um = with a red stripe).
Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 5.1 mm), PAPUA NEW GUINEA: NEW IRELAND; labels: 1) NEW IRELAND ( SW)/ "Camp Bishop"/ 12 km up Kait R./ 240 m VII-7-1956 2) E.J. Ford, Jr./ Collector ( BPBM) . Paratype. PAPUA NEW GUINEA: NEW IRELAND ( SW): Ridge above "Camp Bishop", 15 km up Kait R., 250–750 m, 13.VII.1956, 1 ♂ (fw. 4.8) , E.J. Ford, Jr. ( BPBM) .

Diagnosis. Rhotana rubifasciata resembles closely R. dextra sp. nov., R. gracilis sp. nov., and R. aequa sp. nov. from New Britain and New Guinea. It can be distinguished from these by the faint orange markings on frons, clypeus and pronotum, as well as by the male aedeagus ending in two straight, pointed processes of unequal length.
