Saccharodite affinis Zelazny View in CoL , sp. nov.
( Fig. 261)
Description. Forewings 2.1 times longer than wide, length in male 2.6–3.1 mm (mean = 2.9, n = 6). Colour stramineous; orange in front of eyes; labium light orange-brown; the very tip of rostrum reddish (in holotype and some paratypes, in other paratypes stramineous); middle and hind legs with a red mark on femora and light orange tibiae and tarsi. Forewing with faint infuscations from clavus tip to apex of basal median cell, around Ms2 fork and along apical crossveins. A spot of slightly darker infuscation near last subcostal sector; veins stramineous to orange-brown (in some paratypes all veins stramineous), veins around junction of M-Ms3 dark, 3 spots on base of Sc+R+M; margins orange. Hindwings colourless. Male genitalia with pygofer narrow. Genital styles oval, proximal dorsal process short, distal dorsal process elongated. Aedeagus with stem bearing a prominent, thin, blade-like projection on left side near junction with apical portion; apical part on left side thin and blade-like, right part with a prominent lobe directed dorsad and to the left and ending in a pointed tip.
Etymology. The species name is a Latin adjective ( affinis , -is, -e = closely related).
Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 2.9 mm), NORTH BORNEO : BRUNEI: labels: 1) Brunei, Labi / Bukit Teraja / 30km S.E. of Seria / 21–28.iii.1979 2) Primary mixed/dipterocarp/forest, alt. 60m . 3) light trap 2/ 75m . above ground/ L. Sutton /B.M. 1985-50 ( BMNH). Paratypes. 2 ♂ same data as holotype , 3 ♂ same data as holotype but 50 m above ground (fw. 2.6, 2.8, 3.0, 2x 3.1) ( BMNH) .
Distribution. North Borneo.
Diagnosis. Saccharodite affinis is very similar to Sa. lamina sp. nov., also from Borneo. The only consistent external difference appears to be the presence of red marks on the hind femora. The males can be recognized by the pointed tip on the dorsal lobe of the apical part of the aedeagus.
