Nuevo León: near Monterrey, 1846, L. A. Edwards & J. H. Eaton s.n (NY 00273216 c!). Remaining syntypes:— MEXICO. Coahuila: wet ravines, Eagle Pass, 28 September 1852, J. M. Bigelow s.n. The type information in the protologue of Sapium annuum var. dentatum was “ wet ravines, Eagle Pass, Lower Rio Grande; Bigelow, Schott. Valley of the Almo; Parry. Near Monterey, Nuevo Leon; Dr. Edwards & Major Eaton ”. The specimen NY 00273216 has three branches identified by letters: a and b refer to the syntype collected by Bigelow s.n. in “wet ravines, Eagle Pass, Sept. 28, 1852 ”, whereas c refers to the syntype collected by Edwards & Eaton s.n. “ near Monterey, Mexico ”. Another duplicate of Bigelow s.n. in GH consists only of a small fragment of the branch with a few leaves and some seeds. The specimen Edwards & Eaton s.n. (NY 00273216 c) is chosen as the lectotype because it has full inflorescences and is best preserved .
