ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 25.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Amer. Aequator. [Equatorial (South) America]”.

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype (not a female as given in the description) ( MZUN: Box Daxiidei D 01, 01) : Sarcophaga rificrura [sic!] Rnd., Rio Napo / M. Zool. N° 11377 / ♂ .

CURRENT STATUS: doubtful species of Sarcophaginae View in CoL ( Lopes 1969: 54, Pape 1996: 445).

REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 25) described Sarcophaga ruficrura from just the female sex, apparently mis-sexing it, without specifying either the number or length of the specimens, from material received from G. De Cristoforis. Costa (1866: 33) listed a single MZUN specimen numbered “693”. We also found one syntype in this study.
