Scatopsciara (Scatopsciara) geophila Tuomikoski, 1960 View in CoL
( Fig. 4 A View FIGURE 4. A )
Scaptosciara geophila Tuomikoski, 1960: 154 , Fig. 33 b. Literature: Menzel & Mohrig (2000): 498.
Material: 17 males, 11.vi.–24.vii.1994, leg. E. Fuller, Canada, Alberta, Munn Creek, 53.30°N, 118.10°W, spruce forest, Malaise trap (PWMP, 1 male in MZH).
Comments. The species is characterized by a sharply pointed gonostylus, distinctly concaved on the dorsal inner side. The gonostylus has a strong apical tooth, longer than 5–6 hyaline spines along the inner side. The scutum is haired dark; mediotergite with a few bristles (unusual for Scatopsciara , except Sc. tricuspitata and Sc. tricuspitatula ). The species is similar to Sc. neglecta Menzel & Mohrig. It differs by the gonostylus, concaved in the apical half of the dorsal side. It belongs to the Sc. atomaria group.
Distribution. Holarctic. Europe (N), Russia, Canada (Alberta). New for North America.
