Scutops ipixunensis View in CoL sp. nov.
( Figs 7–8 View FIGURE 7 View FIGURE 8 , 19D View FIGURE 19 , 22 View FIGURE 22 )
Diagnosis: Face whitish yellow, with dorsal portion higher than wide, flattened with apical margin rounded in frontal view; gena and postgena brown, silver pruinescent band adjacent to posterior margin of eye not reaching the gena; scutum dark brown with a median short yellow stripe, rather quadrangular, not reaching the presutural area; all tibiae yellow.
Holotype male. Description. Body length: 3.5 mm; wing: 2.8 mm. Head ( Figs 7A–C View FIGURE 7 ). Frons yellow; frontoorbital setulae inconspicuous, sparse, very short, thin, and brown. Face whitish yellow; dorsal portion higher than wide, flattened with apical margin rounded in frontal view. Gena and postgena brown; gena and postgena with long brown setae. Occiput with a series of long, slender, brown setae; silver pruinescent band adjacent to posterior margin of eye longer than half of the height of occiput, but not reaching gena. Antenna yellow; pedicel with three dorsal robust, dark brown setae; arista with ten dorsal and five ventral branches. Buccal pieces dark brown. Thorax ( Figs 7A, C View FIGURE 7 ). Scutum dark brown with median yellow stripe between dorsocentral series short, rather quadrangular, not reaching presutural area; postpronotal lobe whitish yellow with dense silver pruinescence; notopleuron dark brown, supra-alar area pale brown to yellow with sparse silver pruinescence; scutellum yellow, slightly elevated relative to level of scutum; subscutellum brown; pleura brown, katepisternum with dorsal margin yellow. Setae: anterior dorsocentral seta 1/2 length of posterior seta; posterior katepisternal seta 2/3 length of anterior seta; basal scutellar seta 2/5 length of distal seta. Legs ( Fig. 7A View FIGURE 7 ): coxae brown, trochanters yellow, femora brown with apex yellow; tibiae and tarsus yellow. Forefemur with posteroventral setae robust; midtibia with apicoventral spine black. Wing ( Fig. 19D View FIGURE 19 ) brown in distal half and yellow in the remaining including the cells costal, basal and cup and basal portion of the cells r 1 and r 2+ 3; transverse preapical hyaline band incomplete. Abdomen. Tergites and sternites dark brown. Terminalia ( Figs 8A–C View FIGURE 8 ): epandrium as high as wide in posterodorsal view; cercus small, ellipsoid; postgonite subrectangular in lateral view, with posterodorsal setose projection; hypandrium + phallapodeme elongate anteriorly; phallus long and slender, three times longer than hypandrium, membranous, slightly sclerotized in the lateral; ejaculatory apodeme with apical portion broadened.
Female. Similar to male. Terminalia ( Fig. 8D View FIGURE 8 ): tergite and sternite 7 forming a ring higher than wide in posteroventral view; sternite 8 broad with dorsal margin slightly concave; cercus oval.

Type material examined: Holotype male ( INPA). Holotype condition: right anterior dorsocentral seta, distal scutellar seta and right basal scutellar seta lost; femora, left tibia and left tarsus glued in the triangle of paper; left halter lost; abdomen dissected, kept in microtube with glycerin. Paratype: BRAZIL, Amazonas , Manaus, Res [erva] km 41, P[rojeto] D[inâmica] B[iológica] de F[ragmentos] F[lorestais] [2°35′46.5″S 60°02′17.5″W], 05–06. viii.2004, Trilha B [orda]-S[ub] B[osque], ( R. Comments: This species can be distinguished from congeners by the short median yellow stripe on the scutum, which quadrangular, not reaching the presutural area. This condition is similar in S. chapmani . Scutops ipixunensis sp. nov. can be easily distinguished from the latter species, however, by the incomplete hyaline preapical band of the wing, the frons without a wide central brown spot, black gena, distal margin of face rounded, femora black and silvery band of occiput short.
Etymology: the specific name refers to type-locality, Ipixuna, in the state of Amazonas, in Brazil.
