The name Seps muralis Laurenti, 1768 was not effectively protected under Art. 23.9.2 by simply citing Gruschwitz & Böhme (1986: 201–208), as explained above. The authors did not cite the name Seps muralis Laurenti, 1768 in its original combination, which was intended to be protected. Designation of a neotype for Lacertus terrestris Garsault, 1764 would not be required, there are no expressed doubts that the figure presented by Garsault was sufficient to recognize the identity of the species. We do not understand how the authors can argue that using L. terrestris Garsault, 1764 for a subspecies would not threaten the well established use of the specific name Podarcis muralis ( Laurenti, 1768) . Garsault's name was established earlier and would have precedence.
