Setodes moritai sp. nov.

( Figs. 2A–2G View FIGURE 2 )

Setodes sp.: Morita 1997, 42, male, Honshu (Mie).

Setodes View in CoL sp. 2: Nozaki & Nakamura 2002, 178, Honshu (Hiroshima); Nozaki & Nakamura 2005, 227, Honshu (Shimane). Setodes View in CoL sp. ( aff. obscurus View in CoL ): Kawase et al. 2017, 39, Honshu (Shiga).

Diagnosis. Diagnoses of this species, S. chirotheca , and S. obscurus are discussed in the diagnosis of the preceding species.

Adult. Head and body pale yellow. Forewings each 5.8–7.0 mm long (n = 10) in male, 6.0– 7.6 mm (n = 12) in female, color and venation almost same as those of S. chirotheca sp. nov.

Male genitalia. Segment IX, preanal appendages, inferior appendages, and phallus almost same as those of S. chirotheca . Segment X trapezoidal in dorsal view, fused with tergum IX, generally depressed apically in lateral and dorsal views, but specimens collected from Nagano Prefecture bearing pair of spine-like processes posterolaterally (2Ba, 2Ca). Paramere spines arising from endotheca, turned upward about 1/6 distance from tip, apex abruptly bent caudad; each with tiny spine at apical 1/6 ventrolaterally, but sometimes lacking.

Female genitalia. Segment IX, preanal appendages, lamellae, gonopod plate almost same as those of S. chirotheca . Segment X rectangular in lateral and dorsal views, as long as lamellae, with triangular projection ventrolaterally in lateral view; bilobed in dorsal view, but sometimes each lateral lobe small. Spermathecal sclerite oval in ventral view, with long acute process posteriorly. Genital chamber large, triangular in ventral view, extending into segment VIII, anteroventral margin not sclerotized, deeply concave in ventral view.

Immature stages. Unknown.

Etymology. I take pleasure in naming this species in honor of my friend, Mr. H. Morita, who recorded this species with illustrations of the male genitalia for the first time.

Distribution. Japan (Honshu (central to western), Shikoku).

Japanese name. Nishi-seto-tobikera.

Holotype. ♂ (in alcohol), Nabari-gawa , Kaminagase , Nabari-shi, Mie, Honshu, Japan, 34°34’N, 136°10’E, 11.vii.2013, H. Morita leg. (CBM-ZI 166041). GoogleMaps

Paratypes. 2♂ 10♀ (in alcohol), same data as the holotype (CBM-ZI 166042–166053).

Remarks. The female genitalia of S. moritai are similar to those of a female described as Setodes sp. B by Yang & Morse (1989) from northeastern China. However, the females of S. moritai are distinguishable from those of the latter species by the shape of the anteroventral margin of segment IX: The anteroventral margin of segment IX is not excised posteriorly in S. moritai but is widely excised posteriorly in Setodes sp. B.
