Type material: Holotype: male ( SD 1588 ), MALAYSIA: Sabah Province: Mount Kinabalu, below Layang Layang , 2600 m, 02–08 May 1987, A. Smetana leg. ( MHNG).

Etymology: The species name is derived from the name of Mount Kinabalu in Malaysia where the type was recorded; term in apposition.

Diagnosis: Males of S. kinabalu spec. nov. are similar to those of S. semicirculata Liu et al., 2008 and S. mi Chen & Zhu, 2009 in having a straight spermophore in ventral view and an embolic apophysis nearly as long as embolus, and to S. grandispinosa in having a straight spermophore in ventral view and a slender dRTA. They can be distinguished from S. grandispinosa by 1. smaller body size reaching 5.80 (9.80 in S. grandispinosa ), 2. embolus straight and embolus tip wider than embolic apophysis (curved and embolus tip nearly as wide as embolic apophysis in S. grandispinosa ) and 3. vRTA slightly longer than dRTA (vRTA nearly twice the size as dRTA in S. grandispinosa ); from S. semicirculata by 1. smaller body size reaching 5.80 (10.40 in S. semicirculata ), 2. embolus straight and embolus tip wider than embolic apophysis (curved and embolus tip nearly as wide as embolic apophysis in S. semicirculata ) and 3. vRTA slightly longer than dRTA and distal part of dRTA tapering (dRTA longer than vRTA and distal part of dRTA rounded in S. semicirculata ); from S. mi by 1. smaller body size reaching 5.80 (11.70 in S. mi), 2. conductor wide (slender in S. mi) 3. embolus straight and distally wide (curved and distally with small thorn-shape apophysis in S. mi) and 4. vRTA slightly longer than dRTA, in retrolateral view distal part of vRTA view without apices and dRTA straight (dRTA longer than vRTA, in retrolateral view vRTA with two apices and dRTA curved in S. mi).

Description: Male (holotype): Total length 5.80; prosoma 2.90 long, 2.50 wide, anterior width of prosoma 1.40; opisthosoma 2.90 long, 1.70 wide. Eye measurements: AME 0.15; ALE 0.23; PME 0.20; PLE 0.21; AME– AME 0.09; AME–ALE 0.03; PME–PME 0.18; PME–PLE 0.17; AME–PME 0.19; ALE–PLE 0.24; clypeus AME 0.35; clypeus ALE 0.32. Measurements of palp and legs [left leg IV: missing, right leg IV regenerated without spines]: palp: 4.95 (1.70, 0.80, 1.00, 1.45); I: 14.90 (3.90, 1.40, 4.10, 4.00, 1.50); II: 16.55 (4.40, 1.50, 4.55, 4.50, 1.60); III: 14.00 (3.90, 1.40, 3.70, 3.70, 1.30); IV: 10.20 (2.90, 0.80, 2.70, 2.50, 1.30). Spination: palp: 131, 101, 2111; legs: Fe I–III 323; Pa I–III 000; Ti I–III 2126; Mt I–II 2024, III 3036. Cheliceral furrow with 3 anterior and 4 posterior teeth.

Colouration in ethanol: Prosoma median part yellow with two brown dots, laterally brown with yellow spots. Sternum yellowish-grey, anterior and lateral part brown. Opisthosoma grey with brown spots, ventral part greyishbrown, antero-laterally yellow. Chelicerae yellow with brown stripes. Palps yellow; Fe distally with brown spots, Pa laterally with brown spots. Legs yellow; Fe ventrally brown, distally, dorsally and medially with brown spots, Pa laterally and distally brown, Ti brownish with yellow stripes, Mt reddish-brown.

Palp as in diagnosis. Embolus slender. Embolus tip wide. Embolic apophysis straight, distal part tapering, proximally wide and with membranous part. Conductor arising from 1-o’clock-position, distal part wide and slightly bent ventrally. vRTA covering dRTA in ventral view. dRTA needle-shaped, tapering in retrolateral view.

Female: Unknown.

Distribution: Known only from the type locality.
