Smittium peculiare R.T. William & Strongman, Botany View in CoL 91: 389. 2013. ( Figs 49–52 View FIGURES 49–52 )
Specimens examined: — COLOMBIA. SANTANDER: Berlin ; Quebrada El Cardal prepared from Chironomidae larvae, D. Baron, COL16 About COL –Tr53 .
Comments: — S. peculiare was described from Canada, on the basis of its long cylindrical trichospores ( William and Strongman 2012). Our Colombian specimens present trichospores with identical characteristics, without median bulge, measuring 30–33 × 2.9–3.3 μm [26–31(–37) × 2–4 μm in the original description, Williams and Strongman 2013], with a short collar 3–4.5 μm (2–3 μm according to Williams and Strongman 20212), and a holdfast 4.5–6 μm diam. Pseudo-rhizoidal and amorphous material as originally described. Thalli are characteristically verticillate producing 2–6 generative cells per fertile branch, shorter than the trichospores. Zygospores were not found.
