Distribution: — Mexico (Chis, Hgo, Oax, Pue, Ver), Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua.
Representative specimens from Veracruz: —Acatlán: P.Hietz 289 (XAL). Mecayapan: T. Krömer & E. Otto 2941 (EBT, MEXU, UC, XAL). San Andrés Tuxtla: T. Krömer & A. Acebey 2561 (EBT, MEXU, UC, XAL). Soteapan: M. Palacios R. 17 (UAMIZ, XAL). Tatahuicapan de Juárez (until 1997 part of Mecayapan): T. Krömer et al. 3666 (MEXU, UC). Tlalnelhuayocan: T. Krömer et al. 3911 (MEXU, UC, XAL).
Ecology: — Epiphytic; in Los Tuxtlas area and central Veracruz in montane rain forests between 1450- 1970 m .
Conservation status: — Endangered ( EN) in Veracruz. Although known from five recent collections and three specimens (AOO: 148 km 2) made in four localities of small natural forest fragments in central Veracruz (not protected), and at the upper slopes of Santa Marta and San Martín Tuxtla volcanoes, which are somewhat protected because they form part of the nuclear zones of the Los Tuxtlas Biosphere Reserve , their montane rain forest habitat in Veracruz, especially in the central region, is still under high anthropogenic pressure.
