1964 SYMPYCNIDELPHUS Robinson, 1964: 149 View in CoL . Type species: Sympycnidelphus sharpi Robinson View in CoL [Nearctic], by original designation. NOTES: Robinson (1964) makes the following remark about this genus: ‘‘The occurrence of a member of this apparently tropical genus in the Southern Appalachians follows the pattern seen in many plant types. Dr. A. J. Sharp, Department of Botany, University of Tennessee, has long called attention to such distributions and has suggested that the locality of the southern Appalachians has served as a refuge for many tropical types since the more generally tropical conditions in the prePleistocene.’’ Sympycnidelphus View in CoL is restricted to the New World. californicus Harmston, 1968: 23 View in CoL .
