Strigamia fusata ( Attems, 1903)

Synonym: Paraplanes californicus Verhoeff, 1938 .

Taxonomic notes. It was described originally as a species in a distinct genus Diplochora . The holotype and other specimens were redescribed in detail by Crabill (1962a), who assigned the species to Tomotaenia and recorded other specimens. Other authors listed it among the synonyms of S. parviceps , but the true identity of the latter is actually unknown (see below under “Uncertain species”). It is assigned here to Strigamia for the first time (new combination), because it shares all major diagnostic features of Strigamia (see above under “Notes on synonymies”).

Paraplanes californicus was described by Verhoeff (1938c), and described again as new by the same author in a distinct paper published later in the same year ( Verhoeff 1938a; Crabill 1962a). No other specimens were recorded, and the species was almost ignored until Crabill (1962a, 1962b) synonymized it under S. fusata after examining the type specimens of both species.

Distribution: south-western part of North America, from southern Coast Ranges to the Gulf of California.
