Strophedra laticolla , sp. nov.

( Figs. 5 View FIGURES 3 – 10 , 13 View FIGURES 11 – 15 , 18 View FIGURES 16 – 19 )

Type material. CHINA: Holotype ♂, Jianfengling (18.44°N, 108.52°E), Ledong County, Hainan Province, 770 m, 4.VI.2015, coll. Peixin Cong, Wei Guan and Sha Hu, genitalia slide no. LSH15535 GoogleMaps . Paratype: 1♀, same data as holotype, except 28.V.2015, genitalia slide no. LSH15428 GoogleMaps .

Diagnosis. The male genitalia of S. laticolla are characterized by the neck only slightly narrower than the width of the valva at the base, and a subovate cucullus. The female genitalia are similar to those of S. magna Komai, 1999 with the posterior margin of the 7th sternite deeply concave beyond the middle, but it can be distinguished by the ductus bursae with the basal half sclerotized, whereas the ductus bursae is sclerotized throughout in S. magna ( Komai 1999: fig. 347).

Description. Adult ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 3 – 10 ) wingspan 9.5̄ 11.5 mm. Head: Earthy yellow, with gray-tipped scales. Antenna earthy yellow, slightly less than 2/3 length of forewing. Labial palpus slender, reaching upper margin of compound eye, pale yellow. Thorax: Dorsum and tegula dark brown. Foreleg with coxa and femur deep yellow on dorsal surface, yellow on ventral surface, tibia blackish brown on outer surface, pale yellow on inner surface, tarsus blackish brown except yellow at apex of each tarsomere on outer surface, brown except yellow at apex of each tarsomere on inner surface; mid- and hindlegs with coxae and femora browish yellow, tibiae brown on outer surface, yellowish on inner surface, tarsi brown except yellow at apex of each tarsomere on outer surface, grayish yellow on inner surface. Forewing slightly widening towards rounded apex, length about two times of maximum width; costa slightly arched beyond distal 1/4, then oblique to apex; termen oblique, with a conspicuous notch below apex; dark brown, with yellow-tipped scales; costa with nine pairs of yellow strigulae, basal two pairs ill defined; dark brown band from costa between second and third pair of strigulae widening and oblique to middle of discal cell on anterior margin, then bent ventrad to basal 2/5 of dorsum, located before median fascia; median fascia leaden with light blue gloss, from between third and fourth pair of strigulae to 2/3 of discal cell on anterior margin, then bent ventrad to middle of dorsum; dark brown band from costa between fourth and fifth pair of strigulae widening and oblique to upper corner of discal cell, then bent ventrad to before tornus, located beyond median fascia; leaden streak with blue gloss below fifth and seventh pair of strigulae, streak below fifth pair of strigulae extending to base of R4, nearly touching inner edge of ocelloid patch, streak below seventh pair of strigulae extending to above notch of termen; ocelloid patch with three small black dashes respectively at middle of M1 and M2, and at 1/3 of M3, inner edge leaden with blue gloss, wide and vertical above tornus, outer edge absent; between two blue leaden streaks with seven to nine short horizontal black dashes or dots, archly arranged from below seventh pair of strigulae oblique to above tornus beyond inner edge of ocelloid patch; fringe dark gray, basal line black gray. Hindwing brown, with costa at base overlapped by forewing grayish yellow basally and light yellow distally; fringe yellowish gray, basal line blackish brown. Abdomen: Male genitalia ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 11 – 15 ) with tegumen broad, about same length as cucullus. Gnathos subtrapezoidal. Valva almost uniformly wide from base to before neck; costa curved medially by approximately 140°, with indistinct basal process; basal cavity well defined, elongate subovate; neck indistinct, slightly narrower than valva at base; sacculus with a bunch of fine setae at base, with long hairs extending from near base to neck; cucullus subovate, about 1/2 length of valva, densely covered with fine setae from ventro-basal corner to apex, with bristles along ventral margin, with tufted short spines extending from above ventro-basal corner obliquely inward and across 2/3 width of cucullus. Phallus with basal 3/ 5 uniform in width, distal 2/5 narrowed to apex, almost as long as cucullus, with a denticle at dorsal 4/5 ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 11 – 15 a), with three cornuti beyond basal 2/3. Female genitalia ( Fig. 18 View FIGURES 16 – 19 ) with papillae anales nearly reniform in shape. Apophyses anteriores longer than apophyses posteriores. Lamella postvaginalis weakly sclerotized, granulous. Ostium bursae rounded, with a sclerotized short, wide band on anterior margin; ductus bursae narrow, basal half sclerotized; ductus seminalis arising from posterior end of corpus bursae. Corpus bursae ovate; signa being two small, horn-shaped spines, as long as width of ostium bursae. 7th sternite with posterior margin excavated beyond middle; median process pointed.

Distribution. China (Hainan).

Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin lati- (wide) and collus (neck), referring to the broad neck of the valva that is only slightly narrower than the basal width of the valva.
