Synagris cornuta maculatoides Selis & Carpenter nom. nov.

Synagris cornuta var. maculata Bequaert 1918: 210 , ♀ —“Medje” (AMNH). Non Synagris similis maculata Maidl, 1914 .

Notes. Bequaert (1918) described similis and maculata as new varieties of Synagris cornuta , based on specimens that he believed were conspecific with the taxa described four years before by Maidl as Synagris similis and Synagris similis var. maculata . The taxa described by Bequaert are indeed color forms of S. cornuta , but the ones described by Maidl clearly belong to a distinct species, more closely related to S. fulva than S. cornuta . Bequaert therefore created two cases of homonymy, of which one was corrected by Carpenter et al. (2010) with the proposition of the name Synagris cornuta similoides as replacement name for Synagris cornuta var. similis . To correct the other case, the name Synagris cornuta maculatoides is proposed as replacement name for Synagris cornuta var. maculata Bequaert, 1918 , non Maidl, 1914.
