Synodus dermatogenys Fowler 1912 — Clearfin lizardfish

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken off southeastern New Hanover at 3–16 m depth, St. KR 98, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); a specimen observed at Bauddisson Island, Kavieng District , 1–50 m depth, St. T 4, on 31 Oct. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa, Comores and Mascarenes east to Hawaiian Islands and Pitcairn Group, south to Australia, Lord Howe Island and New Caledonia. Found in coastal and offshore reefs, 1–70 m depth. Marine.
