Syringophilopsis trogoni View in CoL sp. nov.
( Figs. 4 View FIGURE 4 and 5 View FIGURE 5 )
Description. FEMALE, holotype. Total body length 1015. Gnathosoma . Infracapitulum apunctate. Hypostomal apex with 2 pairs of protuberances. Each medial branch of peritremes with 3 chambers, each lateral branch with 13 chambers. Stylophore apunctate, 260 long. Idiosoma . Propodonotal shield with deeply concave anterior margin, punctate laterally, bearing bases of setae vi, ve, si and c1. Length ratio of setae vi: ve: si 1:1.4:2.3. Setae se situated distinctly anterior to level of setae c1. Hysteronotal shield absent. Pygidial shield small, punctate, anterior margin rounded. Genital setae shorter than agenital setae, length ratio of setae g1: g2: ag2 1:1:2.4. Setae ag1 and ag3 subequal in length, both 1.7 times longer than ag2. Coxal fields I–IV apunctate. Setae 3c 1.3 times longer than 3b. Legs. Fan-like setae p’ and p” of legs III and IV with 15 tines. Posterior tips of apodemes I fused with middle parts of apodemes II. Lengths of setae: vi 180, ve 260, si 405, se 405, c1 450, c2 430, d1 445, d2 410, e2 395, f1 90, f2 455, h1 105, h2 480, ps1 65, ps2 65, g1 75, g2 75, ag1 310, ag2 180, ag3 300, l’RIV 145, 3b 145, 3c 190.
Etymology. The name “ trogoni ” refers to the generic name of the host – Trogon .
Type material. Female holotype and 1 female paratype from Trogon citreolus Gould ( Trogoniformes : Trogonidae ); MEXICO, Jalisco, Chamela Biological Station of UNAM, N 19°29’52” W 105°2’33”, 19 May 2008, coll. S.V. Mironov & P.B. Klimov (Field no. SVM 08-0519-11/3).
Type material deposition. Female holotype deposited in UNAM, female paratype in ZISP.
Additional material. One female from secondary quill of Trogon melanocephalus Gould ; COSTA RICA, Finca Taboga near Canas, 10 February 1970, coll. D.E. Johnston. Mite specimen is deposited in FMNH.
Differential diagnosis. Syringophilopsis trogoni sp. nov. belongs to the group “ turdi ” and is similar to S. rusticus Skoracki, 2004 described from Hirundo rustica ( Passeriformes : Hirundinidae ) in Poland (Skoracki 2004). In females of both species, the hypostomal apex bears two pairs of protuberances, and genital setae are distinctly shorter than agenital setae. This new species differs from S. rusticus by the following characters: in females of S. trogoni , the hysteronotal shield is absent; setae se are situated distinctly anterior to the level of setae c1; the pygidial shield is apunctate; the length ratio of setae ag1: ag2: ag3 is 1.7:1:1.7, and the length of setae l’RIV is 145. In females of S. rusticus , a pair of the hysteronotal shields is present; setae se and c1 are situated at the same transverse level; the pygidial shield is punctate; the length ratio of setae ag1: ag2: ag3 is 1:1:1, and the length of setae l’RIV is 60–70.
