Type material. Holotype: adult male (slide mounted in Euparal), BRAZIL, Mato Grosso, Baía dos Coqueiros, 20.i.2001, C. M. M. Butakka (A3-01; LEIA /UFSCar). 5 Paratypes: 3 males, as holotype (A3-02, A3-03, A3-04; LEIA /UFSCar); 1 male as holotype except for 30.ix.200 (A3-05; LEIA /UFSCar); 1 male, Amazonas, Solimões river, igarapé Catuá , 10.ix.1961, E. J. Fittkau ( ZSM).
Etymology. Named in honor of Cristina Márcia de Menezes Butakka , who collected most of the specimens.
Adult male (n = 6, unless otherwise stated)
Size. Total length 4.50–5.70 mm. Wing length 1.90–2.20 mm. Total length/wing length 2.37–2.59. Wing length/length of profemur 1.86–2.20.
Coloration. Head, antenna and maxillary palp yellow. Thorax brown. Wing translucent. Abdomen mostly yellow, tergite IX and hypopygium brown. Legs brownish.
Head. Flagellum 1281–1585 µm long (3). Frontal tubercle 23 µm long. Eye ratio 0.41–1.0. Clypeus bearing 25–32 setae. Palpomere 2–5, lengths in µm: 50–63; 88–125; 150–175; 169–219.
Thorax chaetotaxy. Acrostichals 12–14, dorsocentrals 12–15, prealars 6, supraalars 2, scutellars 14–17.
Wing. Width 0.52–0.62 mm. VR 1.03–1.07. Wing ratio 0.27–0.28. Brachiolum with 2 setae. Squama with 10– 12 long setae.
Legs. Lengths and proportions as in Table 1.
Hypopygium ( Figs 3–5 View FIGURES 1–5 ). Tergite IX 168–180 µm long, with 6 dorsomedial setae arranged as in Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1–5 . Anal segment has 3 setae dorsally between the tergal bands. Anal point 74–78 µm long, with 12 dorsal setae and 6 ventral setae. Transversal and lateral sternapodemes, and coxapodeme as in Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1–5 . Phallapodeme 193 µm long. Inferior volsella 161–184 µm long, surpassing anal point, with 10–13 distal setae ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1–5 ). Superior volsella 108– 123 µm long ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1–5 ). Gonocoxite 177 µm long. Gonostylus 185–223 µm long, with one stout seta apically.
Distribution. The specimens were collected using floating and light traps in lentic and small lotic systems in Mato Grosso and Amazonas states, Brazil.
