Type material. Telemiades xantho Hayward, 1939 was described based on the male holotype from Misiones, Argentina. The male holotype is deposited at the IML with the following labels: / Misiones Hayward./ HOLOTIPO/ TIPUS/ Telemiades xantho Hayw. Holotipo ♂./ No. 95 K. J. Hayward det./ Prep 375./.
Diagnosis. FW length: males 16–18 mm (n=26) and females 18–21 mm. Telemiades xantho is distinguished from the remaining species of “ amphion group” by the following characters: tegumen with apophysis slightly dorsally curved; harpe with a developed spine–like projection; lamela antevaginalis with lateral expansion broader than in Telemiades austini sp. nov.. Additionally, T. xantho has its distribution in Atlantic Forest areas. Besides the sympatric distribution, the females from T. xantho are similar with females from T. atlantiope sp. nov. but it could be distinguished by the broader apical hyaline spots in FW and by the dark spot in CuA 2 –2A in VFW.
Variation. Somes specimens varies on the ground color.
Distribution. Telemiades xantho occurs in Atlantic forest and southern Amazonia forest areas, with records in the brazilian states of Bahia, Espírito Santo, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Paraná and Santa Catarina, and in Misiones, Argentina.
Taxonomic discussion. Hayward (1939) described Telemiades xantho and Evans (1953) considered it as a synonym of T. avitus . Despite the phenotypic similarity between the two species, the analysis of the holotype of T. xantho and the illustration of the male genitalia ( Hayward 1939: 430, fig. 1), together with other morphological characters (see diagnosis), are sufficient to revalidate T. xantho .
