CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Steyskal 1965: 694), junior synonym of Tetanocera elata (Fabricius, 1781) View in CoL ( Rozkošný & Elberg 1984: 190, Rivosecchi 1992a: 246).

REMARKS: Rondani (1868c: 223) described Tetanocera nigricosta from two females: “ Foeminas duas tantum possideo, unam in apennino lectam , alteram in collectione Mussino extantem [I have only two females, one collected in the Apennines, the other is in Mussino’s collection]”, one he had collected and one received from G. Mussino. Verbeke (1964a: 10) unambiguously identified the type (the female labeled as such), which therefore must be considered as the lectotype (I.C.Z.N. 1999: Article 74.5), but did not mention the additional MZUF female numbered “1514” (this additional specimen is a paralectotype).
