Tetragonoschema (Tetragonoschema) quadratum ( Buquet, 1841) View in CoL
( Figs. 24 View FIGURES 19 – 27 , 70 View FIGURES 64 – 71 )
Anthaxia quadrata Buquet, 1841: 194 . Type locality: Haiti.
Anthaxia quadrata: Lacordaire, 1857: 50 (note);
Tetragonoschema quadratum: Gemminger & Harold, 1869: 1386 View in CoL (catalogue); Saunders, 1871: 56 (catalogue); Kerremans, 1892: 129 (catalogue); 1903: 169 (catalogue); Obenberger, 1922: 72 ( quadratum View in CoL , revision, key); Fisher, 1925: 176 (taxonomy, key); Obenberger, 1930: 559 ( quadratum View in CoL , catalogue); Blackwelder, 1944: 315 (catalogue); Théry, 1944: 22 (revision, key, redescription); Bellamy, 2008: 1520 ( quadratum View in CoL , catalogue).
Tetragonoschema chrysomelina Thomson, 1857: 116 . Type locality: Haiti.
Tetragonoschema chrysomelinum: Gemminger & Harold, 1869: 1386 View in CoL (catalogue, synonym of quadratum View in CoL ); Saunders, 1871: 56 (catalogue, as syn. of quadrata ); Kerremans, 1892: 129 (as syn. of quadrata , catalogue); 1903: 169 (as syn. of quadrata , catalogue); Obenberger, 1922: 72 ( chrysomelinum View in CoL , as syn. of quadratum View in CoL , revision, key); Fisher, 1925: 176 (revision, key, as syn. of quadrata ); Obenberger, 1930: 559 ( chrysomelinum View in CoL , as syn. of quadratum View in CoL , catalogue); Blackwelder, 1944: 315 (catalogue, as syn. of quadrata ); Théry, 1944: 22 (revision, key, as syn. of quadrata ).
Type specimen studied. Number of syntypes unknown; lectotype ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 19 – 27 ), here designated (male, MNHN): “Th. Type [p, black-framed] // quadrata Type Buqt., chrysomelina Type Thoms., Haiti [h] // ex Museo James Thomson [p] // Type [p, red] // Museum Paris ex coll. R. Oberthur [p]”.
Diagnosis. Short, nearly as long as wide, black with an intense violet lustre; elytra 1.10 times as long as wide, lateral margins subparallel, posterior margins transversely truncate, dorsal surface asetose, pronotum very convex without lateroposterior depressions; aedeagus slender, slightly enlarged at basal third ( Fig. 70 View FIGURES 64 – 71 ). In its body-shape and colouration it is very similar to T. (T.) purpurascens but stouter, and the frons has a deep, wide postclypeal impression; both species also differ from each other by the form of the elytra, pronotum and slightly in the shape of male metatibiae and genitalia ( Figs. 70 View FIGURES 64 – 71 vs. 71).
Length: 4.3 mm.
Since the number of syntypes of T. quadratum is unknown I hereby designate the male from MNHN as the lectotype of Anthaxia quadrata Buquet, 1841 .
Bionomy. Unknown..
Sexual dimorphism. Female unknown.
Distribution. Haiti.
Note. According to Théry (1944) Thomson obtained Buquet´s type and supposed it to be conspecific with T. (T.) chrysomelinum : “Thomson, qui avait acquis le type de T. quadrata Buq. , a réuni lui-meme son T. chrysomelinum a cette espece”.
