Species 49: Teuchophorus humilis View in CoL sp. nov. (male and female) (figures 198–202)
Etymology. Lat. humilis , ‘humble’.
Diagnosis. A small species, with a narrow, pale brown stigma. Eyes separated on face. Antenna yellowish brown, third segment more yellowish, triangular, about as long as deep. Fore femur without bristles. Mid femur with three small ventral bristles near base and a few thin av on apical third. Hind femur with a thin, pale av near tip. Hind tibia dorsally with a row of four or five rather strong bristles, without ventral bristles. Mid tibia with two ad, one pd and (in male) with a row of a few av, all very short and weak.
Material examined. Type material: Indonesia, Irian Jaya, Nabire , km 61.5, alt. 100 m, torrent, 25 April 1997, male and nine males, eight females (No. 970038, leg. P. Grootaert and Ph. Hoyois) .
Male
Body length 1.1–1.3 mm; wing length 1.1–1.2 mm.
Head. Frons and face with shining greenish black ground colour. Face at its narrowest point about half as wide as depth of third antennal segment. Palpi brownish yellow, each with a small black apical bristle. Rostrum yellow. Occiput shining greenish black. Chaetotaxy as usual; two tiny postocellars. Postocular cilia uniseriate, black above, yellow below. Antenna (figure 198): short, yellowish brown; third segment more yellowish. Marginal bristlets on second segment very short. Third segment more or less triangular, with a rather blunt apex, about as long as deep. Arista dorsal, more than three times as long as antenna, very shortly pubescent.
Thorax. Mesoscutum and scutellum with shining dark metallic green ground colour, with a brownish gloss towards sides. Pleurae brown, glossy on larger sclerites; metapleura with black anterior margin. Chaetotaxy as usual. Acr uniseriate, very short. Scutellum with two marginals, without lateral hairs. No propleural bristles.
Legs. Legs, including coxae, yellow. Mid coxa with a very vague indication of a brownish longitudinal stripe.
Fore leg. Coxa anteriorly with short pale hairs that grow longer towards apex of coxa. Femur without bristles. Tibia about as long as femur, without bristles or serration. First tarsal segment ventrally at base with two very small black spinules. Length of tibia and tarsal segments (in mm): 0.32: 0.16: 0.07:0.05: 0.05: 0.07.
Mid leg. Coxa with short pale hairs. Femur (figure 199) ventrally near base with three short bristles; on apical third a row of about four thin av; a small preapical av. Tibia (figure 199) about as long as femur; two ad, one pd, all short and weak; an inconspicuous row of two to four weak av on apical half. Length of tibia and tarsal segments (in mm): 0.5:0.2: 0.1:0.08: 0.05:0.07.
Hind leg (figure 200). Coxa with a weak, pale exterior bristle. Femur anteroventrally near tip with a thin, pale, hair-like bristle, preceded by a few short hairs. Tibia slightly longer than femur; dorsally a row of four or five rather strong, pale bristles, longer than diameter of tibia. First tarsal segment hardly thickened, ventrally bare. Length of tibia and tarsal segments (in mm): 0.45: 0.12: 0.14:0.09: 0.06: 0.07.
Wing. Wing (figure 201) hyaline. A narrow, pale brown stigma, filling up near its base only half of the space between costa and r2+3. r4+5 and m1+2 feebly diverging. No anal vein. Halters yellow. Squamae yellow, with a narrow brown border, and yellow cilia.
Abdomen. Terga brown to dark brown, sterna brown. Hairs and hind-marginal bristlets on terga very short, black. Hypopygium (figure 202) rather small, brown, with small, yellowish cerci.
Female
Body length 1.2–1.5 mm; wing length 1.15–1.25 mm.
Face not wider than in male. Mid tibia without row of small av. Wing without stigma. Oviscapt yellow, with brown apical border, bearing 10 small black acanthae.
