Genus Thelepus Leuckart, 1849 View in CoL
Type-species. Thelepus bergmanni Leuckart, 1849 , by original designation.
Remarks. Thelepus is a well-known genus of Thelepodidae, with 48 known species (Hutchings et al. in press; Hsueh & Li 2016) including the two new species herein described. Recent definitions of this genus were provided by Hutchings et al. (2015, in press). The genus differs from Pseudostreblosoma Hutchings & Murray, 1984 and Streblosoma Sars, 1872 by having notopodia from segment 3, instead of segment 2, and from Euthelepus McIntosh, 1885 and Pseudothelepus Hutchings, 1997 1 in not having lobes on anterior segments, except for the ventral lobe on segment 1, below the mouth.
Thelepus setosus is the only species of this genus previously recorded from the Brazilian coast, although some authors preferred to identify the specimens as T. cf. setosus , as commented above. In order to reveal the differences between the holotype of T. setosus and the Brazilian specimens, a redescription of the former species is provided herein, and the Brazilian specimens are described as two new species.
