Diagnosis. Size. Length, male, 3.71–3.89mm; female, 3.82–4.22mm. Width, male, 2.38–2.42mm; female, 2.42–2.75mm. Antennal scrobes broadly visible in dorsal view. Pronotum and elytra with scales long, erect, plumose and shaggy; on pronotum condensed in anterolotreal angles and in paramedian tufts; elytral strial regions with fine, hair-like, non-plumose scales; posteroloteral area of elytra with 3–6 shallow punctures; basal margin of elytra not toothed at humeri. Geographical distribution. Honduras (Comayagua).
Natural history. Collected from berlese extraction of mixed liquidambar, oak and cloud forest leaf litter at an elevation of 2000m and of wet oak-pine forest litter at an elevation of 1950m.
Derivation of specific name. Named after Roberto Cordero of the Escuela Agricola Panamericana (El Zamorano) in Honduras.
Material examined. 2♂, 2♀♀ ( CMNC). Holotype ♂ ( CMNC): HONDURAS: Comayagua. Montana Comayagua, 18.0 km. E. Comayagua, 20.VIII.1994 -216E, 2000m, R. Anderson, oak/cloud/liquidambar forest litter berlese / HOLOTYPE ♂, Theognete corderoi sp. nov., R.S. Anderson. Aedeagus extracted. Paratypes: HONDURAS. Comayagua. Comayagua (18km.E.), Montana Comayagua, 2000m, 20.VIII.1994 -216, R. Anderson, oak/cloud/liquidambar forest litter berlese (1♂, 1♀ CMNC). Comayagua (18km.ENE.), Montana Comayagua, 1950m, 20.VIII.1994, S.&J. Peck, 94-52, wet oak/pine forest litter berlese (1♀ CMNC) .
Chorological relationships. Sympatric with Theognete boaseae .
