Thrycolyga nova Rondani, 1856 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1856: 68.
TYPE LOCALITY: Rondani gave no type locality in his original description but later (1859b: 187) added “ in planitie et collibus agri parmensis [ Parmese plains and hills ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 3 ♂♂, syntypes (one partially eaten by dermestids, missing right mid-leg; one missing left fore-, right mid- and hind-legs) ( MZUF: Box 13): Thrycolyga Rndn. / nova Rnd. , ♂ / 667; 3 ♀♀, syntypes (one missing right fore-, left mid- and right hind-legs) ( MZUF: Box 13): Thrycolyga Rndn. / nova Rnd. , ♀ / 667; 1 ♂, syntype (missing left fore- and mid-legs) ( MZUF: Box D): Tricholyga nova R., 253, ♂, Parma / 393 253.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Exorista (Tricoliga) nova ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 124, Pape et al. 1995: 16, Cerretti 2010: 101, O’Hara et al. 2020: 400).
REMARKS: Rondani’s (1856: 68) key for the genus Thrycolyga Rondani, 1856 lists Thrycolyga nova as its type species, but he did not provide a detailed description, type locality, number or sex of the specimens. He later ( Rondani 1859b: 187) redescribed this nominal species and wrote: “ Non infrequens [Not common]”. We found seven syntypes in this study. This nominal species was described under the generic name “ Thrycolyga ”, which is an “incorrect original spelling of Tricoliga Rondani, 1856 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 180).
