Tinea compositella Fabricius, 1775: 663 .
Type locality. England (“Habitat in Angliae nemoribus”).
Material examined. Kiel coll. 3 syntypes representing two species: 2 specimens of Grapholita compositella (Fabricius) and 1 specimen of Grapholita or Cydia sp.
Identity. Grapholita compositella (Fabricius) ( Olethreutinae , Grapholitini ) ( Lederer 1859).
Remarks. This is a well known and widely accepted Fabrician taxon (e.g., Brown 2005). In order to stabilize the nomenclature, the specimen shown in Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 I is herein designated as the lectotype. It is a male and the only specimen in the series with a label (“ composana ”) in Fabricius’ handwriting ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 I). It is in rather poor condition, and its abdomen is missing.
