Diagnosis: Medium adult-sized Ommastrephidae without photophores; funnel groove without foveola; tentacles without carpal locking apparatus; tentacle club with manus horny rings with homogeneous dentition; four series of suckers on dactylus; lateral suckers of the paralarva proboscis equal in diameter to the central ones; paralarval development more advanced at hatching than other ommastrephids; paralarvae with skin sculpture; adult female with multiple seminal receptacles in the buccal membrane.
