Remarks. All previous records of Trifurcula pallidella from the French mainland are misidentifications; only the recent records from Corsica are correct. Van Nieukerken et al. (2004b) showed that the western margin of its distribution is in Italy very close to the French border, hence it is possible that T. pallidella may be found in the Alpes Maritimes. Most old French records refer to T. immundella ; material from almost all localities cited by Lhomme was examined, with the exception of the material from Ventron (88) collected by Fischer, which could not be located. This record might also refer to Trifurcula beirnei Puplesis, 1984 , a species formerly confused with T. pallidella , but hitherto unknown from France. However, the occurrence of T. beirnei in France is very likely, considering its records in Britain, Spanish Pyrenees, and western Germany (van Nieukerken & Johansson 1986; van Nieukerken et al. 2004b), and also in the light of the abundance of its supposed hosts: Genista species. The identity of the Bruand records can not be established and may not necessarily belong to Nepticulidae .
