Trochita pileus (Lamark, 1822) Fig. 5D
Material examined.
94 spm (2 × 1 - 22 × 10 mm).
Synonymy.
See Linse (2002).
Remarks.
This species has a very similar external morphology to Trochita pileolus ( d’Orbigny, 1984). Aldea and Rosenfeld (2011) explained that the most conspicuous external difference is that Trochita pileus has a smoother protoconch while Trochita pileolus has a wrinkled protoconch. Reid and Osorio (2000) denied the presence of the species Trochita trochiformis in Tierra del Fuego and the Strait of Magellan, previously reported by Carcelles and Williamson (1951), claiming that this record was probably referring to the species Trochita pileus .
