Note. This is an epigean species with a disjunct distribution (Central Lombard Prealps and Colli Euganei). At lower elevation it is frequently found in forests while at higher elevation it is found in a variety of cool habitats. According to the remarkable preference of this species for forest habitats, we assume that populations found at higher altitudes in Premolo and Casargo, represent possible relicts of the ancient populations, previously inhabiting forests. In this area forest naturally attains 2000 m a.s.l., but it have been progressively removed for pastoral use. Therefore we assume that the main cause of the disjunct distribution of this species (Central Lombard Prealps /Colli Euganei) might be due to the fragmentation of the original forest.
