Trogoderma fasciolata Fairmaire, 1897 , comb. rev.

( Figs. 1–6 View FIGURES 1 – 6 )

Syn.: Aethriostoma fasciolata (Fairmaire, 1897) : 97 (hom.). Attagenus fairmairei Mroczkowski, 1958: 558 .

Attagenus (Aethriostoma) fairmairei: Háva, 2003: 54 .

Material examined. 8 exemplars: Plat. de l’Androy—Rég. d’Ambowombé (6 exx., MNHN [most of the specimens with incomplete pubescence on dorsal side of the body; one specimen in two parts, head with pronotum separated from the body; the other one with incomplete left elytron; most of the specimens without antenna and legs]); Madagascar, Zombitse N.P., (main entr.), Ambakintany forest, 816 m, S22°53´11´´, E44°41´31´´, 24–27.i.2013, M. Trýzna lgt. (1 ex., JHAC); Madagascar, Tanandaya, 1963–1964, G. Schmitz (1 ex., JHAC).

Diagnosis. Trogoderma fasciolata closely resembles Trogoderma impressiceps (Pic) , but differs from the Madagascan species by the following morphological features: terminal antennomere short and brown, lateral parts of pronotum orange, head finely punctured. In T. impressiceps terminal antennomere long and black, lateral parts of pronotum dark brown or black, and head coarsely punctured. From the other known Madagascan Trogoderma species T. fasciolata differs by the characteristics mentioned in the key provided below.

Redescription. Body strongly convex, slightly elongate (BL: 2.35–2.70; BW: 1.50–1.65) ( Figs. 1–2 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ). Head with eyes large, convex. Frons with shallow punctation. Antenna ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ) 11-segmented with three-segmented antennal club, covered densely with light-brown pubescence. Antenna occupies only small part of total antennal fossa cavity. Antennal fossa (AFL: 0.3–0.4) open completely along whole length of lateral margin of pronotum (LMP: 0.6–0.7). Antennal club less than half length of entire antenna ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ), ratio of length of club segments is 1:1:3. Remaining segments of antenna compact ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ). Pronotum (PL: 0.6–0.7; PW: 1.25–1.5) and elytra dark-brown almost black, shallowly but densely punctate, covered with brown (seeming lighter viewed via transparent light) and white pubescence. Pronotum with three maculae bearing white pubescence; two subtriangular maculae, situated in the posterior angles of the pronotum, third located just anterior to the apex (anteriad of scutellum). Elytra with three irregular, transverse fasciae bearing white pubescence; elytral apices with spot bearing white pubescence ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ). First elytral fascia extends from medial suture to lateral margin and posterior of the humeral callus. Second fascia extends from lateral margin, but does not reach medial suture (near midlength of elytron). Third fascia extends from medial suture to lateral margin (near 2/3 length of elytron). Ventral surface of body dark brown almost black; prosternum with yellowish-brown pubescence; mesosternum and metepisternum with white pubescence; abdominal ventrites I–V with white and yellowish-brown pubescence ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ). Prosternum densely punctate on disc but lacking punctation along midline of prosternal process. Mesosternal disc with punctation less dense compared to prosternum. Abdominal ventrites (SL: 1.15–1.2; SW: 1.4–1.55) dark brown, shallowly but densely punctate ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ). Legs with yellowish-brown pubescence dorsally. Trochanter and femur blackbrown in color, tibia and tarsus brown. Tarsus with two slightly curved tarsal claws. Female genitalia as in Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 6 . Sclerites in bursa copulatrix as in Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1 – 6 . Pygidium as in Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1 – 6 .

Distribution. Kenya; Madagascar ( Háva 2013a).
