Type locality and data. “ Chile ” (T, ♂, BMNH) .

World distribution. Argentina and Chile.

Chilean distribution. This species only has been recorded from Antofagasta to Metropolitan region ( Fig. 110 ).

Altitudinal range. This species inhabits mainly highland ecosystems (3,500 –4,200 m.a.s.l.).

Biology and notes. Tropidia notata is associated with the highlands of the Chilean Andes. Mining operations are probably the main threat for this flower fly. In Argentina, this species has been associated with the Andean shrub Discaria nana (Clos) Benth. & Hook. ex Weberb ( Medan 2003) . Other aspects of its biology and ecology remain unknown in Chile.

Conservation status. EN under B2ab (iii) using AOO = 12 km 2 and three localities (or subpopulations); EOO = 11,381 km 2.
