Distribution and habitat. Uracentron flaviceps is endemic to western Amazonia, with eastern distribution restricted by the lower Negro River (west side), and upper Madeira river (both sides), occurring in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru ( Fig. 22 View FIGURE 22 ). In Brazil it is known from the states of Amazonas, Acre, and Rondônia. Uracentron flaviceps is arboreal and diurnal, inhabits primary terra firme forest, seasonally inundated forest, and occasionally secondary forest ( Fugler & Schwaner 1968; Dixon & Soini 1975; 1986; Duellman 1978; Zani & Vitt 1995; Vitt & Zani 1996a; de Freitas et al. 2011). It is found on large horizontal branches of large trees with hollow areas (entrances or holes), at heights between 0.3 to 10 meters above ground or water (Vitt & Zani 1996a). According the same authors, when disturbed the lizards generally retreated into the holes (the cavities in limbs or trunks), and occasionally ran down on trunks, entering in water (in flooded forest).
