TYPE LOCALITY: Ecuador, Paramba, 1100 m .
DISTRIBUTION: Panama to Peru and Bolivia. Costa Rica (RB).
COMMENT: Although the named forms umbratus , oratus, and aquilus were regarded as synonyms of dorsalis by Carter and Rouk, 1973, J. Mammal., 54:976, see also Handley, 1976, Brigham Young Univ. Sci. Bull., Biol. Ser., 20(5):28, who considered them a distinct species for which the oldest name is umbratus . See also comments under umbratus .
