Vertomannus (Vertomannus) tibetanus View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figures 6 View FIGURES 1 – 7 , 12, 13, 14)

Description. Head blackish brown, shining, apical half sparsely covered with shallow transverse rugosity and short semi-erect hairs, basal half with dense long erect hairs. Neck black, nearly twice longer than postocular distance. Antennae testaceous, apical half of segment I, tip of segment II and III slightly darker, segment IV with three different colors: basal half red brown, apical half white yellow, both ends black brown; antennal segment I thicker than other segments and incrassate apically, far exceeding apex of head. Rostrum testaceous with segment I darker, apical end reaching procoxae. Head beneath polished black, laterally black brown.

Pronotum blackish brown, polished, collar thin, posterior lobe testaceous, with dense blackish brown punctures, posterolateral angles darker. Scutellum black, pruinose, longitudinal carina on apical half testaceous, apical end yellow, surface sparsely covered with shallow punctures, which becoming deeper near the carina. Clavus dark brown, with three rows of punctures. Corium testaceous, semitransparent, with brown longitudinal streaks near middle, apical angles blackish brown, large maculae before apical angles, and small ones in inner angles white. Membrane with veins and large macula near apical margin white. Venter of thorax nearly completely black, strongly pruinose, only posterior margins of metapleura shining red brown. Legs testaceous, apical 4/5 of fore femora, apical 2/3 of middle and hind femora black brown, apical half of fore femora incrassate, ventrally armed with 4 spines.

Venter of abdomen testaceous, base, longitudinal streaks located laterally and segments VI and, VII blackish brown. Paramere (Fig. 14) with blade triangular, both outer projection and inner projection blunt. Sperm reservoir (Figs. 12, 13) with left lobe blunt, right lobe a little larger, triangular.

Measurements (n=5). Length of head 2.01 (1.95–2.05), width 0.95 (0.86–1.0), interocular space 0.62 (0.58– 0.64). Length antennal segments I 0.86 (0.82–0.88), II 2.06 (2.0–2.1), III 1.52 (1.48–1.54), IV 1.46 (1.43–1.48). Length of pronotum 1.10 (0.90–1.20), width of anterior pronotal margin 0.48 (0.44–0.50), width of posterior pronotal margin1.30 (1.20–1.40). Length of scutellum 0.54 (0.52–0.56), width 0.55(0.52–0.56). Midline distance apex clavus–apex corium 1.40 (1.35–1.45), midline distance apex corium–apex membrane1.24 (1.20–1.56). Total body length of male 5.8 (5.7–6.0, n=3), female 6.9 (6.5–7.4, n=3).

Type material. Holotype: ♂, China, Xizang, Motuo, Hanmi, alt. 1300–2380m, 10-VIII-2003, leg. Huaijun Xue. Paratype: 2♂♂4♀♀, same data as holotype.

Etymology. “ tibetanus ” alludes to this new species’ distribution in Chinese province, Tibet (=Xizang).

Distribution. China (Xizang)

Remarks. Vertomannus (V.) tibetanus sp. nov. is similar to V. (V.) validus Zheng and V. (V.) crassus Zheng in having the fore femora incrassate, armed with large spines, but the new species can be easily distinguished by the longer neck (about two times postocular distance), the fore femora armed with one row of spines, and the antennal segment IV with a white macula apically.
