Vespertilio adversus var. amboinensis Peters, 1866

Valid name: Myotis ater ( Peters, 1866)

Holotype: ZMB 3119 , body in alcohol, skull extracted, female; “Amboina” = Ambon, Moluccas, Indonesia; collected by von Rosenberg.

Comment: According to Corbet & Hill (1992: 123) var. amboinensis is actually synonymous with Myotis ater ( Peters, 1866) . Koopman (1993) considered ater to be a synonym of Myotis muricola Gray, 1846 ; however, Simmons (2005: 502) indicated the relationship between ater and muricola is still unclear.
