Waldeckia brachycephala Ren, 1998 View in CoL
( Fig. 16 View FIGURE 16 b)
Waldeckia brachycephala Ren, 1998: 159 View in CoL , figs 3, 4. ― Ren, 2012: 172, fig. 75.
Types. Holotype, male, 4.1 mm, ASIO 96-CA-003.
Type locality. South China Sea (5°51.0’N 110°23.53’E), 126 m depth.
Diagnostic description. Head lateral cephalic lobe large, rounded. Antenna 1 peduncular article 1 without anterodistal projection. Labrum, epistome and upper lip fused. Mandible palp article 2 anterodistal margin asetose; article 3 with few marginal setae and apical setae. Labium without apical stylets on each lobe. Gnathopod 1 parachelate; basis anterior margin with slender setae; propodus posterior margin smooth. Gnathopod 2 minutely chelate; carpus long; propodus palm obtuse, straight; dactylus fitting palm. Pereopod 6 basis posteroventral margin rounded. Pereopod 7 basis, posterior margin almost straight, minutely crenate, posteroventral margin rounded. Epimeron 3 posteroventral corner subquadrate/narrowly rounded. Urosomite 1 dorsally smooth. Uropod 1 outer ramus slightly longer than inner ramus; uropod 2 outer ramus slightly longer than inner ramus; uropod 3 inner ramus shorter than outer ramus, almost reaching article 2 of outer ramus.
Depth range. 126 m.
Remarks. Waldeckia brachycephala is similar to W. orchospina and W. tomiokaensis from Japan and W. selayarensis sp. nov. from Indonesia. It can be distinguished from W. orchospina by the absence of distolateral stylets on the outer lobes of the labium, from W. tomiokaensis by the relative length of the rami of uropods 1–3 which are distinctly unequal in this species, and from W. selayarensis in having a chelate gnathopod 2.
Distribution. South-eastern South China Sea.
