Ybytyramoan monteirorum Silveira and Mermudes View in CoL sp. nov.
( Figs. 36–45 View FIGURES 36 – 45 )
Etymology. The name is in honor to the Monteiro family, especially our dear friends, Drs. Ricardo and Margarete. Their enthusiasm and contributions to Neotropical insect ecology are noteworthy. They also helped the first author to collect specimens of this species. Singular genitive, masculine
Diagnosis. Body-shape somewhat ellipsoid, widest medially ( Fig. 36 View FIGURES 36 – 45 ). Antennal alveolus with antennifer process conspicuous. Labrum somewhat straight. Abdominal sterna VI and VII with almost as long and wide as sterna.
Description of the male. Body-shape somewhat ellipsoid. Antennal alveolus with antennifer process conspicuous. Antennae with antennomeres from III slightly decreasing in length toward apex; apical antennomere as long as subapical. Labrum somewhat straight (not indented medially). Pronotum with anterior margin somewhat rounded, lateral margins subparallel. Elytra slightly more than 4x longer than wide. Phallum with anterior margin indented in dorsal view, with median teeth dorsally-oriented. Abdominal sterna VI and VII with lanterns as long as sterna, as wide as 1/2 sterna width. Pygidium with posterior margin slightly indented medially. Abdominal tergum IX and pygidium covered by elytra.
Colour: Body overall dark-brown, except by abdominal sterna VI and VII, which are dark-brown on outer margins and light-yellow on the area around lanterns; and a central light-brown dot at metasternum. Pronotum light-yellow, disc sometimes pink. Elytra dark-brown, outer margins and contour of inner margins light-yellow.
Immature stages and female unknown.
Biology. Fireflies active and flashing from twilight through the first hours of the night.
Remarks. Resembles Ybytyramoan diasi , but can be distinguished by labrum somewhat straight and abdominal sterna VI and VII with lanterns almost as long as sterna. Despite the lack of a phylogenetic analysis, it seems possible that Y. diasi and Y. monteirorum are closer sister species, considering the similarity in aedeagal structure as well as external morphology.
Type-material. Holotype male (DZRJ). BRAZIL. Rio de Janeiro. Teresópolis, P.N. Serra dos Órgãos, Represa do Rio Beija-Flor, 980m 1-2/X/2011, Silveira, L, Dias, G. col.
