Ypsiloncyphon javanicus sp. n.

Type material. Holotype ( NMW): male, “ INDONESIA: W Jawa “Ranca Upas ca. 1300 m 10 km S Ciwidey lg. Schuh 9. 8. 1994 ”, genit. s. no. HY 941. Paratypes ( NMW, EUMJ): 2 males, same data as for the holotype, genit. s. no. HY 974; 1 male, “ INDONESIA: W Java Gede-Pangrango Nat. P. Cibodas Bot. Garden 1400 m lg. Schuh 23. 8. 1994 ”.

Description. Male. Body ( Fig. 13 K) oval, convex dorsally, shiny, closely covered with silver setae. Coloration of body blackish brown; mouthparts, antennae and legs yellowish brown, but maxillary palpi, antennomeres VI–XI and femora infuscate.

Head moderate in size, slightly convex dorsally, granulate, front margin of clypeus shallowly concave. Eyes moderate in size, prominent; the distance between eyes about 2.2 times as long as the maximum diameter of an eye. Antennae slender, reaching about proximal 1/3 of elytra. Pronotum slightly granulate, depressed in lateral parts; anterior margin straight; lateral and posterior margins gently arcuate; antero-lateral corners obtuse, slightly projecting antero-laterally; postero-lateral corners obtuse; PW/PL 2.23–2.50 (2.36). Scutellar shield small, finely punctate, equilaterally triangular. Elytra ovate, widest at the middle, strongly arcuate in lateral margins, densely punctate, strongly convex dorsally in caudal 2/5; humeral parts slightly projecting dorsally; apices right-angled; EL/EW 1.33–1.38 (1.35); EL/PL 4.91–5.33 (5.1); EW/PW 1.60; TL/EW 1.58–1.66 (1.62). Legs relatively long and slender. Sternite III sparsely covered with short setae. Caudal margin of sternite VII ( Fig. 24 A) gently arcuate.

Tergite VIII ( Fig. 24 B) moderately sclerotized, trapezoidal, bearing long setae and short spines along posterior margin, with a pair of long and slender apodemes; tergite IX ( Fig. 24 C) moderately sclerotized, trapezoidal, projecting posteriorly in mesal part of posterior margin, bearing short spines in postero-lateral corners, with a pair of long and stout apodemes; sternite VIII ( Fig. 24 D) long, moderately sclerotized, Y-shaped, bifid in apical 1/4; sternite IX ( Fig. 24 E, broken in basal part) moderately sclerotized, long, U-shaped, pointed at apices. Tegmen ( Fig. 24 F) long, moderately sclerotized, Y-shaped; apical 3/4 (parameres) bifid, widened in apical parts, somewhat pointed at apices. Penis ( Fig. 24 G) short, well sclerotized, about 0.65 times as long as tegmen; pala long, gently tapered basally, rounded in basal margin; parameroids short, densely punctate, gently tapered apically, rounded at apex; trigonium short and wide, protruding from basal 1/2, serrate in apical part.

Female. Unknown.

Measurements. Male (n = 2): TL 1.90 & 2.07 mm; PW 0.75 & 0.78 mm; PL 0.30 & 0.35 mm; EW 1.20 & 1.25 mm; EL 1.60 & 1.72 mm.

Distribution. Indonesia (Java Isl.).

Remarks. This is a remarkable species in having a strangely shaped tergite IX, and a short and serrate trigonium. Related species are uncertain.

Etymology. The species is named after the type locality.
