6. Dichorisandra leucophthalmos Hooker (1853: 4733) View in CoL .
≡ Stickmannia leucophthalmos (Hooker) Kuntze (1891: 721) View in CoL , syn. nov.
Lectotype (designated here):—[illustration] tab. 4733 in Hooker (1853), available at https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/page/ 467324#page/144/mode/1up
Distribution: —Occurs only in state of Bahia, especially in the southern part.
Habitat:—Mostly restricted to Dense Ombrophilous Forest and sometimes found in Seasonal Semideciduous Forest. Some collection localities are from reserves or ecological stations, which are important areas for the conservation of this species.
Notes:—No specimens of the cultivated material used by Hooker to describe D. leucophtalmos were found at K. However, the protologue describes the diagnostic characters of the species quite well: “(...) From a joint at the base of the stem, or near the base, the peduncle or scape emerges, and is prostrate, glabrous, flexuous, panicled, here and there sheathed with brown scales, petals four times as large as the sepals, broadly obovate, spreading, blue-purples, white in the lower half, anthers bright yellow.” Furthermore, the species can be identified unambiguously with the illustration on plate 4733 and, for this reason, this illustration is designated as the lectotype according to 9.12 of the ICN ( McNeill et al. 2012).
