Distribution

China (Guangxi, Heilongjiang, Hubei, Inner Mongolia, Jiangxi, Shaanxi, Tianjin), Asia Minor, Europe, Japan, Korea, North America, Russia (Far East).

Hostplants

Lamiaceae : Thymus mongolicus , T. quinquecostatus , Teucrium sp.; Rosaceae : Sanguisorba officinalis , S. minor , Rubus sp., Potentilla sp., Dryas octopetala , Rosa sp., Fragaria sp. ( Bradley 1979; Liu and Li 2002)

Diagnosis

Forewing length 5.5–9.0 mm. This species is similar to A. sculpta in facies and male genitalia, but can be distinguished from it by the forewing with the semiovoid basal patch ( Figure 6 ), the sacculus with a sharp projection, the cucullus about 3/5 the length of the valva in the male genitalia ( Figure 31 ), and the subscalariform sterigma in the female genitalia ( Figure 53 ). In A. sculpta , the basal patch is triangular on the forewing; the sacculus has an obtuse projection; the cucullus is about 1/3 the length of the valva; and the sterigma is heart-shaped.

Diagnosis

Forewing length 8.0–8.5 mm. This species is similar to A. repandana in facies and male genitalia, but can be distinguished from it by the forewing lacking a deeply emarginated, longitudinal streak in the middle of the cell ( Figure 7 ), and the cucullus about 2/5 the length of the valva ( Figure 32 ). In A. repandana , the forewing has a deeply emarginated, longitudinal streak in the middle of the cell, and the cucullus is about 1/3 the length of the valva. The female genitalia are characterized by the papilla analis as long as the apophysis posterioris, the inverse-scalariform sterigma, and the two same-sized signa ( Figure 54 ).
