World distribution. Argentina and Chile.

Chilean distribution. From Maule to Aysén region ( Fig. 87 View FIGURE 87 ).

Altitudinal range. From coastal to precordillera ecosystems (5– 1,000 m.a.s.l.).

Biology and notes. Aneriophora aureorufa is associated almost exclusively to the trees Eucryphia cordifolia and M. planipes , and forest fragments>10 hectares ( Alaniz et al., 2018; Smith-Ramírez et al., 2021). Laurelia sempervirens is also visited by this flower fly in the south Maule region ( Smith-Ramírez et al., 2021). It is considered the most common pollinator in the high canopy of Eucryphia forests in Chiloé ( Smith-Ramírez et al., 2016). This species is sensitive to habitat fragmentation and anthropic factors such as urbanization, plantation forestry and agriculture. The northern populations have declined and are considered threatened, while central and southern areas potentially host large populations ( Alaniz et al., 2018). In addition, the species has lost around 68 % of its original habitat ( Alaniz et al., 2018). Considering the aforementioned, it is problematic that the species is currently listed as LC by the Environmental Ministry of Chile using the IUCN criteria (www.mma.gob.cl/clasificacionespecies).

Conservation status. LC; EOO = 159,234 km 2, AOO = 176 km 2, 39 subpopulations and 41 localities.
