Diagnosis. Males of Ariadna caerulea are similar to A. ubajara n. sp. due to the morphology of the palps ( Figs 25A‒B View FIGURE 25 , 59F‒G View FIGURE59 ) and metatarsi I ( Figs 24C‒E View FIGURE 24 , 59C‒E View FIGURE59 ), but differ by the presence of males with the mid-portion strongly bent forwards and a more tapered embolus tip ( Fig. 24C‒E View FIGURE 24 ); females are similar to A. boliviana , A. isthmica and A. gaucha n. sp. due to the macrosetae pattern of tibiae I‒II, but differ from these species, except A.

isthmica , by the presence of anterior receptaculum with the ventral lobe shorter than the dorsal one; it differs from A. isthmica by the presence of a ventral lobe longer and more sinuous ( Fig. 25C‒D View FIGURE 25 ).

Description. Male (ICN-Ar 4762). Carapace and chelicerae reddish brown ( Fig. 24A View FIGURE 24 ). Endites brownish orange; labium dark brownish orange. Sternum brownish orange with darker margins, and three pairs of dark marginal areas ( Fig. 24B View FIGURE 24 ). Palps light brownish orange ( Fig. 25A‒B View FIGURE 25 ). Legs brownish orange, with pairs I‒II darker ( Fig. 24C‒E View FIGURE 24 ). Abdomen grey, lighter ventrally ( Fig. 24A‒B View FIGURE 24 ). Total length 8.2; carapace 3.8 long, 2.6 wide. Palps: tibia incrassated, with the dorso-ventral diameter similar to the bulb; bulb sub-rectangular, mid-portion shorter than the embolus and abruptly curved forwards; embolus tapered and with a tubular tip; ( Fig. 25A‒B View FIGURE 25 ). Legs: slender and coated with setae ( Fig. 24C‒E View FIGURE 24 ); tarsal brush of putative chemosensory setae present in legs I‒IV, reduced in pair I, and extending to the distal region of metatarsi III‒IV.
