Description. Shell small, moderately broad fusiform, thin, with high, markedly gradate spire. Large, low conical multispiral protoconch of four convex whorls, terminating in moderately deep sinusigera. Protoconch microsculpture of delicate, rarely bifurcating axial ribs, most prominent below mid-whorl, adapically fading out. Faint spiral thread just above abapical suture. Teleoconch of four whorls separated by deeply incised suture. Spire whorls subcylindrical. Close-set, weakly opisthocline axial ribs on first teleoconch whorl, becoming wider spaced and crested on subsequent whorl.Adapical tips of axial ribs forming small nodes. Last whorl conical, slightly swollen mid-whorl, forming periphery, strongly constricted at base. Spiral sculpture of weak spiral cords on abapical portion of base and siphonal fasciole. Aperture wide. Outer lip thin with six weak denticles within. Anal canal indistinct, broad V-shaped. Siphonal canal moderately long, narrow, notched at tip. Columella twisted forming weak fold. Columellar callus rim very narrow, poorly delimited from base; no denticles.

Shell measurements and ratios. SL: 4.9–6.0 mm, MD: 2.2–2.4 mm, AA: 32–39°, SL/MD: 2.4–2.6, AL/AW: 2.7–3.0, LWH/AH: 1.3–1.5.

Discussion. Bellacolumbella karreri ( Hoernes & Auinger 1880) and B. katharinae ( Hoernes & Auinger 1880) are very similar in general morphology but B. karreri is clearly distinguished by the protoconch, which attains one whorl more and has a more delicate microsculpture. Moreover, B. karreri has close-set axial ribs on the first teleoconch whorl, whereas the axial ribs are wide spaced from the earliest teleoconch whorls in B. katharinae . Finally, the spiny nodes and columellar fold are both far more strongly developed in B. katharinae .

Palaeoenvironment. The clay of the Baden Formation formed in middle to outer neritic settings with up to 250 m water depth ( Hohenegger et al. 2008).

Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (middle Miocene): Vienna Basin: Baden ( Austria) ( Hoernes & Auinger 1880); Făget Basin: Coşteiu de Sus ( Romania) ( Boettger 1906).
