Brachylinga laculata Webb View in CoL spec. nov.

( Figs. 14, 37, 60, 83, 106, 129, 152, 175, 195, 215)

Etymology

Laculatus (Latin) = fourcornered. This name is used as an adjective and refers to quadrate shape of the gonocoxite in lateral view ( Fig. 83).

Diagnosis

Brachylinga laculata is taxonomically associated with B. ornatifrons in possessing setae on the katepisternum; in having the halter knob dark reddish brown; and in having the foretibia dark yellow, apex dark reddish brown. Brachylinga laculata differs from B. ornatifrons in having the wing cell m 3 open widely; tergite 8 ( Fig. 14) thick medially; the gonocoxite ( Fig. 37) with a large gonocoxal bridge; and the distiphallus in dorsal view ( Fig. 129) tapered apically with a narrow dorsal carina.

Description of holotype male (MEI 076286)

Epandrium ( Fig. 14), sides rounded; setae dark yellow. Cercus ( Fig. 14) ending above apex of hypoproct. Hypoproct ( Fig. 14), posterior margin emarginate, ending below apex of cercus. Gonocoxite ventral view ( Fig. 37) quadrate, medial margin slightly emarginate, tapering apically to short point; setae pale yellow with one dark brown setae apically; dorsal view ( Fig. 60) lacking posteromedial lobe, gonocoxal bridge large; lateral view ( Fig. 83) rectangular, posterior margin broadly pointed; ventral lobe ( Fig. 37) lacking ventral spines. Gonostylus ( Fig. 106), basodorsal lobe small; ventral margin curved, setae dark yellow, not produced apically in distinct tuft; fine, short spines absent laterally. Aedeagus with dorsal apodeme ( Fig. 129) narrow, quadrate, posterolateral margin slightly swollen; ventral apodeme ( Fig. 152) narrow, cylindrical, extending to anterior margin of dorsal apodeme; distiphallus dorsal view ( Fig. 129) tapered apically with narrow dorsal carina, lateral view ( Fig. 175) with apex curved ventrally at 90° angle, lacking apicolateral spines; ejaculatory apodeme ( Fig. 129), anterior margin truncate.
