Crambicybolomia similis sp. n.

Description of adult (Fig. 6): Wingspan 16 – 19 mm.

Head beige, labial and maxillary palpus erect, thickly scaled. Antenna about ⅔ length of wing, whitish scales dorsally, brown on sides ventrally pubescent; proboscis conspicuous. Thorax and tegulae beige, roughly scaled. Forewing costa very slightly concave, ground colour beige, three blackish marks on costa in outer half of wing, a fine black streak along vein R 1, beneath this line elongate white spots at ⅓ and ⅔, remainder of wing with blackish streaks especially towards termen, a fine brown terminal line, fringe chequered. Hindwing semi-transparent, a weak double line in fringe. Underside of head, thorax and legs whitish.

Male genitalia (fig. 53): Uncus more or less triangular, gnathos almost as long as uncus but more slender with minute spiculation; valva drawn out to a point, sacculus almost parallel sided with inconspicuous apex, process on dorsal side of valva with a strong curved point. Saccus not produced. Aedeagus almost twice length of valva, gently curved, cornuti comprising a number of many short thorns and a cluster of longer ones.

Female genitalia (fig. 87): Ostium cup-shaped, half width of surrounding segment, then waisted, ductus bursae at first sclerotised then long and membranous, corpus bursae spherical with much interior spiculation and a membranous bulla on each side. Overall length of genitalia similar to that of abdomen.

Diagnosis: Very similar to C. ariditatis but having two elongate white spots above fold in the forewing. Male genitalia very distinct in the process arising from the valva differing greatly from the fibula of ariditatis . In the female the shape of the ostial chamber is diagnostic.

Life history: not known.

Derivation: named from its superficial similarity to ariditatis , the previous species.
