Hyposoter cryptocentrus ( Gravenhorst, 1829) View in CoL

Campoplex cryptocentrus Gravenhorst, 1829 : holotype ♀, in UWCP, examined by Horstmann.

Horstmann (2000) published details of the holotype, which had apparently been earlier labelled, but not published, by Townes, and which he had examined.

We have not seen this species, which is, so far as we know, known only from the holotype, which comes from northern Italy. Its biology is unknown .

Hyposoter culminator Aubert, 1974 View in CoL

Hyposoter culminator Aubert, 1974 View in CoL : holotype ♀, in MZLS, examined by Horstmann.

The species is superficially similar to H. carbonarius View in CoL , but is much smaller (wing length about 5 mm, as opposed to about 8 mm in carbonarius View in CoL ). The mesopleuron is unusually strongly rugose and the metapleuron reticulate-rugose. Hyposoter carbonarius View in CoL is strongly punctate on the lower half of the mesopleuron, whereas no punctures are visible in culminator View in CoL . Hyposoter culminator View in CoL is also similar to H. nigritus View in CoL , but easily distinguished on the key characters.

Nothing has hitherto been published on the host(s) of the species. However, six female specimens in NMS from the French Alps were reared, four from “indeterminate geometrids ( Idaea /Xanthorhoe or near)”, one from “geometrid on low plants”, and one from a lepidopteran without details. We have seen specimens from the French and Bavarian Alps and Switzerland: it is presumably a montane species. Three specimens from the third author’s collection were barcoded ( BOLD Sample IDs CollHH3477, 3478, and 3479) .
