Material examined. Four females from the lower reaches of the Hyeongsan River, Yangdong, Gyeongju (35°59′16″N, 129°15′21″E) (locality 8 on Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ), 10 October 2010. Ten females from discharge water from a water filtration plant at Yecheon-eup, Yecheon-gun, Gyeongbuk-do (36˚39´59.91ʺN, 128˚27´36.56Eʺ) (locality 4 on Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ), 25 August 2008. Fifty-two females from a rain-fed rockpool with a leaf litter substrate above a stream in Deokgu Valley at Deokgu-ri, Buk-myeon, Uljin-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do (37º04′46.9″N, 129º16′25.6″E) (locality 2 on Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ), depth 15 cm, 6 June 2011.

Remarks. This cosmopolitan species is a new record for Korea. It is a very variable species, both in carapace morphology and ecology (see Meisch 2000 for a review). The Korean specimens closely resemble European specimens figured by Meisch (2000, figs 155A and E), although in dorsal view the Korean specimens are very slightly narrower. The surface ornamentation of the Korean specimens is subdued, with only faint pits in the central area, but this fits in with the variation of ornamentation reported for this species ( Meisch 2000). The appendages are also very similar to those reported from Europe and North America ( Meisch 2000; Kesling 1951), with the exception that the long seta on the antennal exopodite is longer in the Korean specimens, reaching to approximately the distal end of the second endopodal segment (usually reaching to the distal end of the first endopodal segment).
