Generitype of Securidaca Linnaeus (1753) , nom. rej.

Current name: Dalbergia monetaria L. View in CoL f. ( Fabaceae : Faboideae ).

Note: Securidaca Linnaeus (1753 , Fabaceae ), nom. rej. in favour of Securidaca Linnaeus (1759 , Polygalaceae ), nom. cons.

See Oort (in Rec. Trav. Bot. Néerl. 36: 678-680. 1939) for an outline of the confusion caused by Linnaeus’ change of generic concept.

Carvalho (in Brittonia 49: 107. 1997) has treated an original Plumier drawing of "Sparteum scandens, citri foliis, floribus albis ad nodos confertim nascentibus" (Cat. Pl. Amer.: 19. 1703), a copy of which he saw at Kew, as type. However, Linnaeus did not study Plumier’s original drawings, usually relying on the line drawings that were subsequently published by Burman. Presumably the illustration intended by Carvalho is that later published as Plumier’s t. 246, f. 1 (1760). However, Carvalho is not explicit about this and the name is therefore still untypified at present.
